Mathematics needs more than recognisable characters. Fractions, derivative notation, labels and the relationships in a diagram must stay meaningful.
This demonstration reconstructs six selected source pages from Thompson’s 1914 edition. The complete passage from printed page 50 is presented with its original wording and all six formulas as native MathML. Editable TeX accompanies it. Figure 52 is redrawn as SVG: its labelled geometry is preserved, while the curve remains qualitative rather than invented numerical data.

Every part of the equation.
Nested fractions, superscripts and mathematical notation restored as structured equations, with editable LaTeX source.
But this is not the only way of indicating successive differentiations. For,
if the original function be ;
once differentiating gives ;
twice differentiating gives
and this is more conveniently written as , or more usually . Similarly, we may write as the result of thrice differentiating, .
Thompson, printed page 50 (scan page 70). The same complete passage in both panels: original wording and all six formulas preserved. Equations are rendered as native MathML.
Thompson, printed page 206 (scan page 226), figure 52. The curve is qualitative, without invented numerical data. Geometry is reconstructed, not a line-for-line facsimile.
Standalone SVG diagram with historical labels. The curve is qualitative; this is a new vector reconstruction, not a facsimile.

What was checked
The owner checked the selected passages, formulas and diagrams and all six final PDF pages. The curve is qualitative; this is not a full-book edition.
